    Plaquenil before surgery

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Sep 18, 2007 Question. I currently take Celebrex and Plaquenil for RA and am having surgery soon on my foot. Dr. told me to be off my meds. one week prior to surgery, but didn’t say how long afterward. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is considered an older DMARD disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug. Plaquenil was actually first classified as an antimalarial drug, but it is also used to treat certain rheumatic and autoimmune conditions which are unrelated to malaria. Generally, Plaquenil is a treatment option as monotherapy used alone for mild rheumatoid arthritis or as combination. Jan 23, 2011 I was due to have gynae surgery tomorrow it may involve a small rectal resection alsobut the gynae nurse called me last Wed and told me to stop Plaquenil and postponed surgery for a week on the surgeon's orders. I had a similar but less invasive surgery last Sept and the gynae surgeon wrote to Rheuma to ask if I needed to stop Plaquenil.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

I felt awful after about a week off. It took another month after beginning it again to start feeling better. I think being off the plaquenil hindered my recovery. I had cubital tunnel syndrome surgery in my right arm. I ended up in therapy before I finally started healing. Question. Plaquenil and hairloss - HealthBoards Plaquenil will eventually help your hair loss, but that will be a very slow process over a long period of time since plaquenil builds up in your body pretty slowly. And you should keep your head a scalp protected from the sun as VeeJ said.
